Start with the commission card
Rose’s Librarian Workwear commission is a useful introduction to the workbench. Read its requirements before spending money. A sketch’s estimated style is a planning tool: check the actual dress again once every piece is on the mannequin.
Make the first dress
- Accept the commission. Align the measuring tape with the customer’s ghost lines and confirm the measurements.
- Choose suitable parts in the sketchbook. One documented Professional starting point uses a Princess bodice, a collar, Peasant sleeves and a Pencil, Princess or straight long skirt. Available Cool Grey Linen can add Professional style. This is an example, so check your own card rather than treating it as the only recipe.
- Drag the actual fabric swatches onto the sketch. Coloured pencils preview appearance; they do not substitute for selecting fabric. Choose Draft Pattern.
- Drag the measuring tape onto the mannequin. Turn its measurement gears to match the customer’s readings and confirm. A player guide uses an initial Quality reading of 20 as a useful fit checkpoint; also check the measurements themselves.
- Put a pattern on fabric, rotate it until the grain indicator is green and near 100%, then cut it. Check the direction of any print separately. Return the cut piece to inventory and repeat.
- Place every piece on the mannequin. Check the commission’s minimums and maximums, then sew each piece. Slow down around corners; R restarts the current piece.
- Return to Patterns and check for remaining seam icons. Use Finish Dress, take the photo and choose Complete Commission.
Know when the job is complete
Look for the finish button, customer feedback and the payment or progression change. A sketch that looks right does not complete the job. Build 403 fixed a commission-payment issue, so older claims that an accepted dress always pays nothing when a condition is missed should not be applied unchanged.
If the finish button is missing, check the missing-piece and seam checklist before resetting any progress.
