How to Adjust Dress Size in Dressmaker

The quick answer

Measure the customer, draft the pattern, then drag the measuring tape onto the mannequin and turn its gears to match the customer. Reusing a customer record does not automatically resize the mannequin.

Steam release workflow; compiled fit data is labelled build 25482629. Always use the current customer readings.

The customer record and mannequin are separate

A correct customer record can be reused, but the mannequin still needs adjusting when you change commissions. Do not copy another player’s dimensions.

Adjust the mannequin before cutting

  1. Accept the commission. Align the measuring tape with the customer’s ghost lines and confirm. Retake an inaccurate record.
  2. Finish the sketch and choose Draft Pattern.
  3. Drag the measuring tape onto the mannequin.
  4. Turn the gears for the relevant measurements, matching the chest, waist and hip readings and ghost outlines to the customer.
  5. Confirm, then check Quality before laying out the fabric.

A documented tutorial uses an initial Quality of 20 as a useful fit checkpoint. If the fit is wrong, return to the sketchbook and restart this dress with the corrected mannequin. The compiler’s example dimensions of 84/66/92 are examples, not a preset for every customer.

Reuse measurements carefully

Open the yellow Friendships page to see the customer’s latest measurements and previous dresses. In ready-to-wear mode, Load Measurements can select a recorded customer.

A tutorial’s “0.1 inch is usually fine” is an author’s experience, not an established tolerance rule. Align the readings as closely as possible. The published customer Quality model assigns 20% to fit; it does not establish a universal acceptable error.
